RICEVILLE, Mont. — The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) would like to announce and invite the public to comment about a proposal to seal approximately 11 miles of US Highway 89 (US 89) through Riceville. The project begins south of Riceville at mile marker 60.3, and extends north, ending at the Belt Creek bridge, south of the Armington Junction roundabout.

Proposed work includes applying a scrub seal, similar to a seal and cover (chip seal), throughout the project limits. Bridge deck repairs will also be included as necessary. The purpose of the project is to improve skid resistance and extend the service life of the roadway in a cost-effective manner.

Construction is tentatively planned for 2027 depending on completion of design and availability of funds. No new right-of-way or utility relocations will be needed.

Partnering with the community is an important part of properly planning for future projects. MDT welcomes the public to provide ideas and comments on the proposed project. Comments may be submitted online at mdt.mt.gov/contact/comment-form.aspx or in writing to Montana Department of Transportation, Great Falls office, PO Box 1359, Great Falls, MT 59403-1359. Please note that comments are for project UPN 10383000.

The public is encouraged to contact Great Falls District Preconstruction Engineer Jim Combs at 406-454-5900 or Project Design Engineer RJ Snyder at 406-459-5294 with questions or comments about the project.
