MELROSE, Mont. — The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) would like to announce and invite the public to comment on a proposal to replace about 11 miles of fencing on Interstate 15 (I-15) from the Glen Interchange to the Soap Gulch Road overpass, north of Melrose.

Proposed work includes installing about 2 miles of wildlife exclusion fencing from the Glen Interchange north to the Old Highway 91 and Railroad Bridge, as well as replacing deteriorating right of way fencing through the remainder of the project. The purpose of the project is to reduce vehicle-wildlife collisions and replace deteriorating right of way fencing.

The project is tentatively scheduled for construction in 2026, depending on completion of all project development activities and availability of funding. No new right-of-way or utility relocations will be needed.

An important part of properly planning for future projects is partnering with the community. MDT welcomes the public to provide ideas and comments on the proposed project. Comments may be submitted online at mdt.mt.gov/contact/comment-form.aspx or in writing to Montana Department of Transportation, Butte office, PO Box 3068, Butte, MT 59702-3068. Please note that comments are for project UPN 10560000.

The public is encouraged to contact Butte District Preconstruction Engineer Brandon Jones at 406-494-9622 or Project Engineer Chauncey Boese at 406-494-9636 with questions or comments about the project.
