BUTTE Mont. — The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) would like to announce and invite the public to comment on a proposal to address a failing stone masonry wall and approximately half a mile of adjacent roadway that is eroding from runoff. The project begins on Montana Highway 2 (MT 2), 10 miles south of Butte on Pipestone Pass, between mile markers 75.1 and 75.5.

Proposed work includes realigning the roadway south in order to install a new ditch on the north side of MT 2 that will improve drainage and prevent erosion. The purpose of the project is to repair the existing roadway and extend its service life.

The project is tentatively scheduled for construction in 2027, depending on completion of all project development activities and availability of funding. No new right-of-way or utility relocations will be needed.
