BLAINE COUNTY, Mont - The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) and its partner, Wickens Construction, will resume the project to reconstruct a portion of US Highway 2 (US 2) between Zurich and Harlem this month.

This project will widen a 7-mile stretch of US 2 between the intersections with Eight Mile Road, 4 miles east of Zurich, and Thirty Mile Road, just west of Harlem. It will include 12-foot travel lanes and 8-foot shoulders, and 2 miles of passing lanes will be added in both directions.

Last fall, crews graded the roadway shoulders and slopes and completed partial culvert placements, preparing the project area for construction to begin this spring.

“This project will enhance safety features and improve the driving surface on this stretch of US 2,” said Mike Moore, MDT’s Engineering Project Manager. “We appreciate the patience of the traveling public during our initial work last fall. With everything in place, we’re ready to hit the ground running this spring and make significant progress.”

This spring, travelers should expect reduced speeds, single-lane traffic, flaggers, signal lights, pilot cars directing traffic, loose gravel, and rough driving surfaces.

MDT will work closely with the traveling public to ensure that wide loads, pedestrian and bicycle traffic, mail delivery, business accesses, and school bus routes are accommodated throughout construction. Members of the public can find more information on the project webpage (mdt.mt.gov/pubinvolve/eastzurich) and by contacting Ella Currier at ellac@strategies360.com or 406-465-7198.
