BIG HORN COUNTY, Mont. - The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) is announcing and inviting the public to comment on a proposal that will resurface about 12 miles of Interstate I-90 (I-90), south of Lodge Grass. The project begins south of the Lodge Grass Interchange, and extends south for approximately 12 miles, ending just north of the Wyola Interchange.
Proposed work includes digouts, full width crack sealing, and finishing with a seal and cover (chip seal) and pavement markings. In addition, bridges within the project area will receive deck repair and a bridge deck crack seal. The purpose of the project is to extend the service life of the existing asphalt surfacing and bridge decks within the project limits.
Construction is tentatively planned for 2026. No new right-of-way or utility relocations will be needed.
Partnering with the community is an important part of properly planning for future projects. MDT welcomes the public to provide ideas and comments on the proposed project. Comments may be submitted online at mdt.mt.gov/contact/comment-form.aspx or in writing to Montana Department of Transportation, Billings office, PO Box 20437, Billings, MT 59104-0437. Please note that comments are for project UPN 10220000.
The public is encouraged to contact Project Design Engineer Jacob Brotzler at 406-657-0266 or Billings District Preconstruction Engineer Kurtis Schnieber at 406-657-0269 with questions or comments about the project.
