GLENDIVE, Mont. — The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) is announcing and inviting the public to comment on a proposal that will rehabilitate or replace eight large culverts on several routes around Glendive:
  • Interstate 94 (I-94) in Dawson and Wibaux Counties from about 11 miles west of Glendive to about 30 miles east of Glendive.
  • Montana Highway 16 (MT 16) in Richland County, about 10 miles south of Sidney near Crane.
  • Montana Highway 200 (MT 200) in Richland County, about 20 miles west of Sidney.
Proposed work includes applying rehabilitation measures on up to six large culverts that are generally in good condition but show signs of aging and replacing at least two large culverts. The purpose of this project is to protect the integrity of these roadways by completing necessary culvert repairs or replacements.

Construction is tentatively planned beyond MDT's 5-year planning horizon but has the potential to begin earlier depending on completion of design and availability of funds. Right-of-way acquisition or temporary construction permits will likely be required for this project. Relocation of utilities may also be necessary. MDT staff will contact affected landowners prior to survey work. Landowners may be contacted again prior to construction regarding temporary permits.

Partnering with the community is an important part of properly planning for future projects. MDT welcomes the public to provide ideas and comments on the proposed project. Comments may be submitted online at mdt.mt.gov/contact/comment-form.aspx or in writing to Montana Department of Transportation, Glendive office, PO Box 890, Glendive, MT 59330-0890. Please note that comments are for project UPN 10526000.

The public is encouraged to contact Glendive District Preconstruction Engineer Jim Frank at 406-345-8214 or Project Design Engineer Steve Heidner at 406-345-8247 with questions or comments about the project.
