GLENDIVE, Mont.— The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) plans to repair damaged and deteriorating bridge decks on Interstate 94 (I-94) near Glendive and Montana Highway 16 (MT 16) near Savage. The purpose of the Glendive District Bridge Deck Rehabilitation project is to improve the driving surface and durability of the structures.

This project includes bridge improvements at five different locations:
  • I-94 eastbound and westbound near Exit 210 (West Glendive)
  • I-94 eastbound and westbound over MT 16, Exit 213
  • I-94 eastbound and westbound over the railroad just east of Exit 213
  • I-94 eastbound over Glendive Creek
  • MT 16 over the United States Bureau of Reclamation (USBR) Main Canal approximately 33 miles north of Glendive, near Savage
Proposed project improvements include:
  • Demolishing and removing the top layer of the existing bridge decks
  • Repairing expansion joints and replacing seals to extend the life of the structures
  • Applying a new concrete overlay with transverse grooves to each surface to improve rideability and traction
  • Upgrading bridge rails to enhance safety
This project is currently in the planning and design phase. MDT is leading this project in partnership with DOWL, the engineering consultant. The construction schedule will be determined as the project progresses and will depend on the availability of funds.
