THOMPSON FALLS, Mont. - The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT), along with construction partner Razz Construction, Inc., will replace the electric wildlife deterrent mat (EWDM) located at the Thompson River Bridge on Montana Highway 200 (MT 200), beginning the week of May 18. The project begins just west of the Thompson River Bridge and extends just off the east bridge end.

An EWDM is embedded in the roadway and designed to deliver an unpleasant, but safe and effective, short duration pulsing shock to deter wildlife from entering or crossing the roadway. Proposed work includes replacing the EWDM, milling the existing surface at both bridge ends, applying a new overlay, and applying new pavement markings. The purpose of the project is to replace and relocate the EWDM further away from the bridge end and repair the asphalt surface.

Crews will be working Monday through Thursday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Expect 10 to 15-minute delays, reduced speeds, and single-lane traffic when traveling through the project area. For the most up-to-date width restrictions and road conditions, visit 511mt.net. Work is anticipated to be completed mid-August, dependent on weather and other unforeseen factors.

The public is encouraged to contact Joan Redeen at 406-396-1978 with any questions or comments.
