BELGRADE, Mont: The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) and its partner CK May Excavating, Inc. are constructing the Jackrabbit-Amsterdam Road Intersection Improvements project starting the week of June 9. The project will improve signal operations and traffic congestion at the Jackrabbit Lane with Amsterdam Road and Alaska Frontage Road intersection in Belgrade.

Construction will last for approximately two months, weather and other unforeseen factors permitting. Access through the project area will be maintained but traffic control will be in place. During construction, motorists can expect reduced speeds, flaggers, and rough roadway surfaces. This work may cause delays of up to 15 minutes.

“Belgrade is one of the fastest growing communities in Montana,” said Jeff Harrison, MDT Butte District “this intersection alone has an average daily traffic count of 24,540 vehicles and will only continue to grow with the development of West Post off Alaska Frontage Road. These improvements will enhance safety features and improve traffic flow.”

The purpose of this project is to improve traffic operations, enhance safety features, and provide accessibility improvements and connectivity. Project improvements will:
  • Upgrade the existing signals by adding green, red, and flashing yellow arrows
  • Improve bike/pedestrian features according to Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) design standards
  • Add retroreflective backplates to signals at Amsterdam Road/Jackrabbit Lane
  • Provide protected-permitted left turn movements for all legs of the intersection to improve traffic flow
  • Widen the east leg of the intersection (MDT in partnership with the West Post Development)
  • Improve ADA elements of the Interstate 90 (I-90) Eastbound Ramp
If you have any questions about the projects, please contact Cathlyn Hammond at the project hotline number 833-573-1128 or email at BelgradeIntImp@dowl.com.
