BOZEMAN, Mont. – The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) and Knife River are inviting the public to learn more about plans to improve 7th Avenue North between West Main Street and the intersection with Nikles Drive and Wheat Drive in Bozeman.
An in-person open house will be held on Thursday, June 19, at C’mon Inn (Gallatin Room), 6139 East Valley Center Road in Bozeman. The public is encouraged to drop in any time between 4 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. to view project information and talk to the project team.
For those unable to attend the in-person meeting, two virtual open houses will also be held online via Zoom on Tuesday, June 24. The virtual open houses will have identical information presented, and each will be followed by a question-and-answer session. The virtual open houses will take place from noon to 1 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. To register for a virtual open house or to learn more about the project, visit the project website at: mdt.mt.gov/pubinvolve/7thAveNorth.
The planned improvements will enhance safety features and improve the flow of traffic. Activities will include upgrading signals and sidewalks to be ADA compliant, widening Peach Street to provide a dedicated westbound left turn lane, widening Oak Street to restore the shoulder, crack sealing and adding a seal and cover (chip seal) on 7th Avenue North between West Main Street and the intersection of 7th Avenue North and Nikles Drive/Wheat Drive, milling and paving sections of the road with deep ruts, and applying final pavement markings.
“We are looking forward to completing these improvements, which will help this busy stretch of road function more efficiently for motorists and more safely for pedestrians,” said Chad Mozol, MDT Butte District Engineering Project Manager. “We hope the public will join us and our contracting partner Knife River to learn more about the project and what to expect during construction.”
Construction is anticipated to begin in July and be substantially complete later this fall. Chip sealing and final pavement markings may need to be applied in 2026.
