ZURICH, Mont. - The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) is announcing and inviting the public to comment on a proposal that will reconstruct about 7 miles of US Highway 2 (US 2), on either side of Zurich. The project begins at Battle Creek Bridge, and extends east, ending west of 8 Mile Road.
Proposed work includes widening the shoulders to 8 feet and installing a 4-lane passing section between mile markers 410.2 and 412. The roadway will be constructed with new gravel and asphalt, finished with a seal and cover (chip seal), and new pavement markings and signage. Two timber bridges will be replaced with culverts and the bridge over 15 Mile Creek will be replaced. The purpose of the project is to build the roadway with current design standards to improve its quality and durability.
Construction is tentatively planned for 2029 depending on completion of design and availability of funds.
Partnering with the community is an important part of properly planning for future projects. MDT welcomes the public to provide ideas and comments on the proposed project. Comments may be submitted online at mdt.mt.gov/contact/comment-form.aspx or in writing to Montana Department of Transportation, Great Falls office, PO Box 1359, Great Falls, MT 59403-1359. Please note that comments are for project UPN 9539000.
The public is encouraged to contact Great Falls District Preconstruction Engineer James Combs at 406-454-5900 or Project Design Engineer RJ Snyder at 406-459-5294 with questions or comments about the project.
