Flathead and Lake Counties, Mont. — The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT), in partnership with the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes (CSKT), Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), local jurisdictions, resource agencies, and the public, has completed a corridor study of US Highway 93 (US 93) between Polson and Somers, Montana.

The US 93 Polson-Somers Corridor Study followed a process that allowed for coordination with the public, stakeholders, and environmental resource agencies before any future design or construction projects are initiated. The goal of the study was to identify short- and long-term improvements to address transportation safety, operations, and geometric concerns based on the needs identified. The study will help ensure an efficient transition from transportation planning to future project development and environmental review based on need and funding availability.

As a supplemental component to the study, MDT has also completed the US 93 Polson-Somers Access Management Plan. The plan was developed to guide management of access points and spacing along US 93 and will be used to assist public agencies, landowners, and developers as development, redevelopment, or construction projects occur in the future. At this time, there are no programmed construction projects with the sole purpose of implementing the modifications recommended by the plan.

Community input is an important part of the transportation planning process. MDT welcomes the public to provide comments on the draft reports, which are available at mdt.mt.gov/pubinvolve/us93polsonsomers/documents.

Comments may be submitted using MDT’s online comment form at mdt.mt.gov/contact/comment-form.aspx or by contacting Jackson Lang at 406-447-3246 or jlang@mt.gov. Please note that comments are for the US 93 Polson-Somers Corridor Study and submit by August 29, 2025, to be considered in the final study.

Anyone needing a reasonable accommodation to participate in a Montana Department of Transportation program, service, or activity should contact the project contact or MDT’s ADA Coordinator at mmaze@mt.gov, 406-444-5416 or Montana Relay Service at 711. Requests should be made at least 48 hours before the comment deadline. The department will make every attempt to honor requests made within 48 hours of a scheduled activity.
