GALLATIN GATEWAY, Mont. — The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) is announcing and inviting the public to comment on a proposal that will replace the Spanish Creek Bridge and approximately 2.5 miles of US Highway 191 (US 191), southwest of Gallatin Gateway. The project begins at where the canyon widens at mile marker 66.5 and extends north ending near the intersection with Spanish Creek Road at mile marker 69.

Proposed work includes installing a southbound passing lane and replacing the existing bridge over Spanish Creek with a wider bridge that can accommodate the passing lane and 8-foot shoulders.  The purpose of this project is to enhance roadway safety features.

Construction is tentatively planned for 2029 depending on completion of design and availability of funds. Right-of-way acquisition or temporary construction permits will likely be required for this project. Relocation of utilities may also be necessary. MDT staff will contact affected landowners prior to survey work. Landowners may be contacted again prior to construction regarding temporary permits.

Partnering with the community is an important part of properly planning for future projects. MDT welcomes the public to provide ideas and comments on the proposed project. Comments may be submitted online at mdt.mt.gov/contact/comment-form.aspx or in writing to Montana Department of Transportation, Butte office, PO Box 3068, Butte, MT 59702-3068. Please note that comments are for project UPN 10274000.

The public is encouraged to contact Butte District Preconstruction Engineer Brandon Jones at 406-494-9622 or Project Design Engineer Jacob Brotzler at 406-657-0266 with questions or comments about the project.
