KALISPELL, Mont. – The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) and LHC Inc. have completed applying a seal and cover (chip seal) and fog seal to U.S. Highway 2 (US 2) between Rose Crossing and the Glacier Park International Airport. Work will now pause for 30 to 45 days, after which crews will return to apply the final epoxy paint markings on this project.
Additionally, crews will return to do minor warranty work, smoothing bumps on the roadway to better even out the driving surface. Currently this work is anticipated to take place in September.
“Construction will be paused for over a month, but we want the public to know we will be back to finish work on the project this year,” said Ryan Paulsen, MDT Engineering Project Manager. “This is a necessary step in the process to ensure both the chip seal material and epoxy paint properly adhere to the road.”
When crews return, work to apply the epoxy paint will take about a week to complete. Once the final paint markings have been applied, work on this project will be complete.
The purpose of this project is to rehabilitate approximately 4 miles of US 2 between the Rose Crossing intersection and the Glacier Park International Airport.
Completed improvements include removing and replacing the pavement; adding a chip seal; crack sealing the roadway shoulders and median lane; adding a fog seal; upgrading existing curb ramps at the Rose Crossing intersection; resurfacing the Motor Carrier Services weigh station; completing electrical upgrades at Birch Grove Road and Rose Crossing intersections; adding shoulder rumble strips, new pavement markings, signage, and roadside delineators; and adding Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) upgrades at the intersection with Rose Crossing.
Construction on this project is anticipated to be completed by fall 2025.
