On Wednesday, October 8th, 2025, students, families, and school staff across Montana will lace up their shoes and celebrate Walk to School Day, a national event that promotes physical activity and most importantly, getting to school safely.
Whether you're in a small rural town or a busy neighborhood, Walk to School Day is a chance to highlight the importance of safety and community. It’s a simple way to get kids moving, reduce motorized traffic around schools, and bring attention to the need for safe walking practices and driver awareness.
Safety Tips for Pedestrians:
- Plan Safe Routes using your local infrastructure! Sidewalks and crosswalks help keep everyone safe.
- Wear Bright or Reflective Gear, especially during early mornings or when visibility is low due to weather conditions.
- Be Weather-Ready. Fall mornings can be cold and/or wet, so plan ahead and dress accordingly.
- Stay Alert. Minimize distractions like phone or headphone use when walking or biking.
Safety Tips for Drivers:
- Stay Alert - Remember to stay focused and stay off your phone when driving.
- Slow Down - adhere to the slower speed limits found in neighborhoods and school zones
- Watch out! - keep an eye out for crossing guards and children crossing roads.
