BOZEMAN and LIVINGSTON, Mont. – The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) and CK May Excavating have officially finished work on Interstate 90 (I-90) between Jackson Creek Road Interchange (Exit 319) and the I-90 Business Loop Interchange (Exit 330) west of Livingston.

The purpose of this project was to preserve and extend the service life of the roadway and enhance safety by mitigating potential rock fall near Bozeman Pass.

Improvements included removing and replacing the asphalt pavement on the shoulders and some sections of the roadway and replacing cattle guards on interchange ramps. In addition, crews rehabilitated several bridges by repairing and sealing the driving surface of the bridges, upgraded barriers and guardrail throughout the project area, and applied a seal and cover (chip seal) and final pavement markings to the pavement.

“This project presented some unique challenges with the rock removal and road closures,” said MDT Butte District Engineering Project Manager Chad Mozol. “We would like to thank CK May Excavating for their hard work and efforts to keep traffic moving safely and efficiently, and the public for their patience during construction.”

The nearby I-90 Bear Canyon to Jackson Creek project on I-90 remains under construction and is anticipated to pause this fall and be completed in 2026.
