HELENA, Mont. – The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) and Montana Materials & Construction will begin work to crack seal the Interstate 15 (I-15) bridge deck (driving surface) over Boulder Avenue and the BNSF railroad in Helena the week of September 29.

Crews plan to crack seal the bridge deck and then apply paint markings to both the northbound and southbound sections of the bridge. This work will occur between the Capitol Area Interchange (Exit 192) and Cedar Street Interchange (Exit 193) and is anticipated to take about a week to complete, weather and other unforeseen factors permitting.

“Work on the I-15 bridge over the railroad tracks was delayed in comparison with other project activities,” said Craig Durkin, MDT Engineering Project Manager. “However, now that we are able to proceed, we are aiming to complete the project as quickly as possible.”

While work is taking place, motorists should anticipate reduced speed limits, temporary single-lane closures, and delays when traveling through the project area.

Travelers are encouraged to visit 511mt.net for the most up-to-date information on current restrictions and road conditions.

The purpose of the I-15 Helena North project is to extend the service life of the roadway, bridges, and interchange ramps within the project area. Construction activities are anticipated to be completed in early October.
