KALISPELL, Mont. – The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) and LHC Inc. are pausing work on the U.S. Highway 2 (US 2) construction project between Rose Crossing and the Glacier Park International Airport for the winter season.
This project was originally anticipated to be completed in a single season, but crews will now need to return in spring 2026 to smooth bumps in the roadway via bump grinding. The majority of the planned improvements were completed this season.
“We originally intended to complete this project in a single season, but time and workload constraints pushed bump grinding work into next season,” said Ryan Paulsen, MDT Engineering Project Manager. “Bump grinding is only expected to take a few weeks to complete, weather and other unforeseen factors permitting, and will have some minor impacts on traffic.”
Once the bump grinding work is finished, work on this project will conclude.
The purpose of this project is to rehabilitate approximately 4 miles of US 2 between the Rose Crossing intersection and the Glacier Park International Airport.
Improvements completed in 2025 include removing and replacing the pavement; adding a seal and cover (chip seal); crack sealing the roadway shoulders and median lane; adding a fog seal; upgrading existing curb ramps at the Rose Crossing intersection; resurfacing the Motor Carrier Services weigh station; completing electrical upgrades at Birch Grove Road and Rose Crossing intersections; adding shoulder rumble strips, new pavement markings, signage, and roadside delineators; and adding Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) upgrades at the intersection with Rose Crossing.
