STEVENSVILLE, Mont. (October 15, 2025) – The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) announces today that construction will begin on the North of Stevensville – North, Eastside Highway (Secondary 203) project next summer, weather and unforeseen circumstances permitting.

The project area begins four miles north of Stevensville, near Wildfowl/Moiese Lane, and ends just south of Hidden Valley Road. Roadwork is anticipated to take place for two construction seasons (2026 and 2027).

“Breaking ground on this Stevensville project is a long time coming,” Missoula District Construction Engineer, John Schmidt, said. “We have received a great deal of public feedback over the years that has significantly impacted the design. Our team looks forward to completing this important roadway improvement.”

MDT encourages the public to reach out to Becca at becca@bigskypublicrelations.com or stop by the pop-up booth event on Wednesday, October 22 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. in front of Super 1 Foods (39 Stevensville Cutoff Road IW Stevensville) with any questions or to learn more about the project. All information and materials will also be available online: https://www.mdt.mt.gov/pubinvolve/northstevi/.

Reconstruction of this section of highway will include widening the roadway from 24 feet to 44 feet, consisting of two 12-foot travel lanes, a 12-foot center two-way left-turn lane, and four-foot shoulders. Additional improvements include flattening of roadside slopes to improve safety and upgrading drainage features. Sharp horizontal curves will be replaced with a large radius curve at Rathbun Lane and with a four-legged roundabout at Ambrose Creek Road.

The purpose of the North of Stevensville-North project is to enhance safety for drivers, improve traffic operations and extend the longevity of the roadway for years to come.

Those who would like more information are encouraged to email Becca MacLean at becca@bigskypublicrelations.com or call (406) 207-4484 Monday through Friday between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.
