BOZEMAN, Mont. – The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) and Knife River have substantially completed construction on the 7th Avenue North Intersections project.
This project upgraded five intersections on 7th Avenue North in Bozeman between West Main Street and the Nikles Drive/Wheat Drive intersection. This project also widened two intersecting roads, Peach Street and Oak Street, to better facilitate the flow of traffic.
The purpose of this project was to address increasing traffic congestion and wear and tear on this section of roadway. Improvements completed in 2025 included upgrading signals and sidewalks to Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliance, widening Peach Street to provide a dedicated westbound left-turn lane, widening Oak Street to restore the shoulder, and milling and paving sections of the road with deep ruts. Crews will return in 2026 to add a seal and cover (chip seal) and apply final pavement markings. Once scheduled, this work is expected to take a few weeks to complete.
Due to a supply chain issue, temporary signals will remain in place in the work zone until the permanent signals can be shipped, likely in early 2026. MDT will notify the public prior to the signal installation taking place. Once installed, MDT will adjust the timing of the new signals to better facilitate the flow of traffic.
“We would like to thank the public for their patience during construction this summer,” said Chad Mozol, MDT Engineering Project Manager. “We would also like to thank Knife River for getting this year’s work done on schedule. Next summer, the remaining portion of the project should be completed fairly quickly.”
