Halloween is a night full of fun, costumes and candy. With all that excitement comes the need for extra caution, especially when traveling on the road.

As trick-or-treaters hit the sidewalks, visibility drops and distractions rise. Children often wear dark costumes, may forget to look both ways, and can dart into the street without warning. That’s why drivers need to slow down, stay alert, and be extra cautious between 5:30 and 9:30 p.m. — prime trick-or-treating time. By turning on headlights early in the evening and watching carefully for pedestrians near crosswalks and driveways, drivers can help prevent the tragedy of a crash.

Pedestrians can do their part by staying on sidewalks, using designated crosswalks, and making themselves visible. Using reflective tape, flashlights, glow sticks, and bright costumes can make a big difference!

Finally, keep in mind that Halloween isn’t just for kids. Adults celebrating should never drive impaired. If you plan to drink, plan for a safe, sober ride home after the evening festivities.

Reaching Vision Zero – zero deaths and zero serious injuries on our roads – is Montana’s shared goal. Let’s all do our part to look out for one another and keep Halloween fun, safe, and full of treats.

🎃 Have a safe and spooktacular Halloween!  👻
