LEWISTOWN, Mont. - The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) and its partner, Kiewit, have paused construction for the season on the MT 200 Bridges Lewistown Area project, and are planning to resume next summer. When the project resumes, planned work items include finish work on the roadway and bridges, applying seal and cover (chip seal), and applying reflective epoxy striping at each site.
Initially, much of the bridge construction was expected to continue through 2025 and into 2026. Thanks to the efficient planning and execution by MDT, Kiewit, and project consultants, the team completed a majority of the bridge work this year—well ahead of schedule.
This season’s accomplishments included constructing many of the new bridges and culverts, installing drainage features, new irrigation structures, new fencing for livestock and wildlife, paving the roadway, adding wildlife and roadway signage, and applying temporary striping.
This project is reconstructing ten bridges along US 87/MT 200 in the Lewistown area and replacing the aging structures with new bridges or culverts. Construction began in April 2025 and is expected to continue through 2026.
MDT thanks the public for their patience and cooperation throughout this year’s work.
