MCALLISTER & NORRIS, Mont. — The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) is announcing and inviting the public to comment on a proposal that will resurface about 10 miles of US Highway 287 (US 287), between McAllister and Norris. The project begins just south of the post office in McAllister, at mile marker 55.3, and extends north, ending near the US 287/US Highway 84 (US 84) intersection, at mile marker 65.2, in Norris.
Proposed work includes milling the existing surface, applying new overlay, and finishing with a seal and cover (chip seal), upgraded pavement markings, signage, and guardrail. The purpose of the project is to extend the service life of the roadway and enhance safety features.
Construction is tentatively planned for 2027 depending on completion of design and availability of funds.
No new right-of-way or utility relocations will be needed.
Partnering with the community is an important part of properly planning for future projects. MDT welcomes the public to provide ideas and comments on the proposed project. Comments may be submitted online at mdt.mt.gov/contact/comment-form.aspx or in writing to Montana Department of Transportation, Butte office, PO Box 3068, Butte, MT 59702-3068. Please note that comments are for project UPN 10561000.
The public is encouraged to contact Butte District Project Development Engineer Brandon Jones at 406-494-9622 or Project Design Engineer Kendall LaBonde at 406-594-6001 with questions or comments about the project.
