GREAT FALLS, Mont. — The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) is announcing and inviting the public to comment on a proposal that will resurface about 1 mile of US Highway 87 (US 87) in Great Falls. On 15th Street, the project begins at the intersection with 1st Avenue South and extends north, ending at the intersection with 5th Alley North. On 14th Street, the project begins at the intersection with 8th Avenue North and extends south to the intersection with 2nd Avenue South.
Proposed work includes milling the existing surface, applying a new overlay, and finishing with upgraded pavement markings and signage. The purpose of the project is to address pavement deterioration and extend the life of the roadway.
Please note that curb ramps within the project limits will be upgraded prior to this project by a separate design-build project, UPN 10589000, GF District ADA Upgrades.
Construction is tentatively planned for 2027 depending on completion of design and availability of funds. No new right-of-way or utility relocations will be needed.
Partnering with the community is an important part of properly planning for future projects. MDT welcomes the public to provide ideas and comments on the proposed project. Comments may be submitted online at mdt.mt.gov/contact/comment-form.aspx or in writing to Montana Department of Transportation, Great Falls office, PO Box 1359, Great Falls, MT 59403-1359. Please note that comments are for project UPN 10547000.
The public is encouraged to contact Great Falls District Project Development Engineer Jimmy Combs at 406-454-5900 or Project Design Engineer Chris Ward at 406-454-5894 with questions or comments about the project.
