GALLATIN COUNTY, Mont. — The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) is announcing and inviting the public to comment on a proposal that will seal and cover (chip seal) about 5 miles of Secondary Highway (S 345), commonly known as South Cottonwood Road, southwest of Bozeman. The project begins near the intersection with Loyal Drive and extends south, ending at the intersection with South 19th Avenue.
Proposed work includes a scrub seal, chip seal, and updated pavement markings. Gallatin County is anticipating completing some asphalt maintenance work prior to MDT’s resurfacing efforts. The purpose of the project is to help repair South Cottonwood Road until Gallatin County can advance a long-term solution, such as a major rehabilitation project, on this roadway.
Construction is tentatively planned for 2027 depending on completion of design and availability of funds. No new right-of-way or utility relocations will be needed.
Partnering with the community is an important part of properly planning for future projects. MDT welcomes the public to provide ideas and comments on the proposed project. Comments may be submitted online at mdt.mt.gov/contact/comment-form.aspx or in writing to Montana Department of Transportation, Butte office, PO Box 3068, Butte, MT 59702-3068. Please note that comments are for project UPN 10696000.
The public is encouraged to contact the Butte District Project Development Engineer Brandon Jones at 406-494-9622 or Project Design Engineer Anita Mathews at 406-494-9636 with questions or comments about the project.
