MISSOULA/HAMILTON, Mont. - The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT), along with construction partner, Knife River, Inc., will begin shared-use path preservation work on the Bitterroot Trail between Hamilton and Lolo.
Work is anticipated to begin the week of May 3 and be completed by the end of June, weather and other factors permitting. Crews will be on-site Monday through Friday, from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m., and occasionally on Saturdays, as needed.
The Bitterroot Trail parallels US Highway 93 (US 93) in Missoula and Ravalli Counties. The project will begin at the Lolo Creek bridge and continues to the Bitterroot River Bridge just north of Hamilton. In addition to the work occurring on the Bitterroot Trail, a section of the shared-use path along Woodside Cutoff Road from US 93 to Eastside Highway will also be improved.
Work includes an overlay, crack sealing, mastic sealing, fog seal, and replacing asphalt areas where needed. The project will also include two Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant curb ramps. During construction, there will be incremental closures to the Bitterroot Trail.
Motorists should expect flaggers, 10-minute delays, reduced speeds, and single-lane traffic when traveling through the project area. Follow all posted signage and watch for workers. For the most up-to-date information, visit 511mt.net.
