BUTTE, Mont. - The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) and its partner Sletten Construction Company will begin work on multiple bridge improvement projects in the Butte area starting mid-April, weather and other factors permitting. The work is part of an effort to preserve and extend the life of key structures while enhancing safety for motorists.
Construction will begin mid-April, on Centennial Avenue over the railroad. This location will undergo the most extensive work, including a full bridge reconstruction down to the girders. Full closures and detours are expected to be in place through July.
Construction will begin early May on the Burlington Street bridge over Interstate 90 (I-90). Motorists on I-90 can expect lane shifts and reduced speeds May through October. This work will include installing a new bridge deck and completing related structural enhancements. Full closures and detours will be in place through construction.
Work on Shields Avenue over the railroad is expected to begin early June with completion later that month. Construction at this site will include structural repairs of the existing bridge. Due to higher traffic volumes in this area, motorists should plan for delays and use alternate routes during full closures and detours.
Construction on an I-90 frontage road in Warm Springs is expected to be completed within one week in early June. This frontage road provides public fishing access on the east side of I-90.
Motorists are encourages to watch for signage, follow posted speed limits in work zones, and plan for additional time when traveling through the area.
