RICHEY, Mont. – The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) invites the public to an in-person open house to learn more about the Richey – Northeast Rural Reconstruction project along Montana Highway 200 (MT 200) in Richland and Dawson counties.
The open house will be held on Tuesday, May 19, from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Richey Public Schools Cafeteria, 205 Royal Avenue East, Richey.
This event will not include a formal presentation. Residents are encouraged to drop by anytime from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. to view project displays, speak directly with the project team, and provide input on the proposed design.
The project includes improvements to approximately 10 miles of MT 200, beginning at the intersection with Secondary Highway 254 (S 254) and extending east to about a quarter mile west of County Road 317. This major rehabilitation effort is designed to improve roadway conditions and enhance safety for all users. Planned work includes rehabilitating the existing pavement, reconstructing select sections to improve roadway geometry, adding 2-foot shoulders, flattening slopes, replacing drainage structures, and upgrading guardrail, signage, and pavement markings.
Additional improvements include installing rumble strips, improving sight distance in key locations, and applying new surface treatments, such as seal-and-cover (chip seal), to extend the life of the roadway. The purpose of the project is to enhance safety, improve ride quality, and support the long-term performance of this important rural corridor, which serves agricultural traffic, oilfield activity, and other travelers in eastern Montana.
Design is currently underway. Community input will help inform final design decisions. For more information and project updates, visit mdt.mt.gov/pubinvolve/richey.
