The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT), along with construction partner LHC, Inc., will resurface about 6 miles of Secondary Highway 508 (S 508), also known as Yaak River Road, beginning the week of May 18. The project begins one mile west of Whitetail Creek Campground and extends east to the intersection with South Fork Yaak Road, between mile markers 23 and 29.63.

Work is anticipated to be completed by the end of June. Crews will be working from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Schedules are dependent on weather and other unforeseen factors.

Improvements to this stretch of S 508 will include milling and paving operations. Crews will return to the project area the week of June 1 to apply a seal and cover (chip seal) and new pavement markings.

The purpose of this construction project is to extend the service life of the existing roadway.

Motorists should expect flaggers and pilot cars guiding traffic, 15-minute delays, reduced speeds, and single-lane traffic when traveling through the project area. Follow all posted signage and watch for workers. For the most up-to-date information, visit 511mt.net.

Work will pause for Memorial Day weekend on Friday, May 22, at 12 p.m. and resume Tuesday, May 26.

The public is encouraged to contact Joan Redeen at 406-396-1978 or email mdtprojectpi@mt.gov with any questions or comments.
