BLAINE COUNTY, Mont.: The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) and Wickens Construction will be working this month to complete final construction activities on US Highway 2 (US 2) as part of the East of Zurich to Harlem reconstruction project. Work will occur between the intersection with Eight Mile Road, about 4 miles east of Zurich, and the intersection with Thirty Mile Road, just west of Harlem.

Rumble strips will be installed this week, with seal and cover (chip seal) and fog seal operations scheduled for next week. All work is dependent on weather and other unforeseen factors.

During active construction, travelers should expect traffic control to be in place. Motorists should expect reduced speeds and follow all posted signage when traveling through the project area. Loose gravel may be present during and immediately following chip seal operations. Motorists should maintain a safe distance from other vehicles and use caution around workers and equipment.

Crews will return in approximately 45 days, near the end of July, to complete final striping efforts. After this work occurs, the project will be complete.

This project widened approximately 7 miles of US 2 to include 12-foot travel lanes and 8-foot shoulders, along with approximately 2 miles of passing lanes in each direction.

“We appreciate the public’s patience as crews complete the remaining work on this project,” said Mike Moore, MDT Engineering Project Manager. “The remaining work will finish roadway improvements and help protect its new surface.”

Members of the public can find more information on the project webpage at mdt.mt.gov/pubinvolve/eastzurich or contact Ella Currier at ellac@strategies360.com or 406-465-7198.
