HELENA, Mont. — The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) is announcing and inviting the public to comment on a proposal that will replace the highway fence on both sides of Interstate 15 (I-15) for about 24 miles north and south of Helena. The project begins at the Lewis and Clark/Jefferson County line, and extends north, ending near the mouth of Wolf Creek Canyon.

Proposed work includes replacing and updating the highway fence. The new fence will be updated to current standards and no changes to the fencing material, such as wood or chain link, are intended. The purpose of the project is to replace the old and worn fencing.

Construction will occur after all design activities are completed and funding has been identified. No new right-of-way or utility relocations will be needed.

Partnering with the community is an important part of properly planning for future projects. MDT welcomes the public to provide ideas and comments on the proposed project. Comments may be submitted online at mdt.mt.gov/contact/comment-form.aspx or in writing to Montana Department of Transportation, Great Falls office, PO Box 1359, Great Falls, MT 59403-1359. Please note that comments are for project UPN 10307000.

The public is encouraged to contact Great Falls District Project Development Engineer Jim Combs at 406-454-5900 or Project Design Engineer RJ Snyder at 406-459-5294 with questions or comments about the project.
