ANACONDA & DEER LODGE, Mont. – The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) and Montana Lines Inc. will begin applying a seal and cover (chip seal) in Anaconda the week of July 6, weather and other factors permitting.

Crews will be applying chip seal to Montana Highway 1 (MT 1), Park Avenue, and Commercial Avenue from Polk Street to North Cable Road. Following the chip seal, temporary pavement markings will be applied to the roadway.

“This work will disrupt street parking and driveway access temporarily in Anaconda,” said Shane Clary, MDT’s Engineering Project Manager for the Butte District. “While we work to keep disruptions to a minimum, we ask that motorists avoid parking on Park Avenue or Commercial Avenue for the week.”

To avoid towing, all vehicles parked on the streets within work zones will need to be moved prior to construction. There will be brief disruptions to driveways and other access points during chip seal work. These disruptions typically last about 30 minutes. Vehicles cannot drive over newly applied chip seal material because it would ruin the chip seal and could damage the vehicle.

Following application of the chip seal and temporary pavement markings, construction will pause for 30 to 45 days, after which crews will return and apply the final pavement markings.

Last week, crews completed applying a chip seal and temporary pavement markings on the Deer Lodge portion of the project. Construction in Deer Lodge is now paused until crews return to apply the final pavement markings in late July or early August.
