HELENA, Mont. – The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) and Jeffery Contracting Inc. are extending the closure of the Interstate 15 (I-15) Spring Creek Interchange (Exit 219) through Saturday, October 3, weather and other unforeseen factors permitting.

This closure will now include both the northbound off-ramp and southbound on-ramp. Both ramps will be paved prior to the interchange reopening. MDT recommends using Exit 226 in Wolf Creek to access Recreation Road during this closure.

“We are extending this closure to include the southbound on-ramp at Exit 219,” said Matt Widhalm, MDT Engineering Project Manager. “This will eliminate the need for an additional closure of the ramps for paving.”

Due to the narrow width of these ramps, closing them is necessary to safely complete this work. The ramps will be reopened with significantly reduced speeds when paving is completed on each ramp.

Motorists traveling through the construction area should expect crossover traffic patterns, single-lane traffic traveling in both directions on the southbound side of I-15 and reduced speed limits.

A 12-foot width restriction remains in place, and all loads wider than 12 feet need to be staged and escorted. Motorists traveling through the project area between 4 and 6 a.m. may encounter brief interstate closures if wide-load escorts are needed.

Work on this project began in April 2026 when crews began removing and replacing more than a foot of degraded roadway material on the northbound lanes of I-15. Resurfacing the southbound lanes is expected to take place in 2027.
