LAKE COUNTY, Mont. – The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT), the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes (CSKT), and Kiewit Construction announce that construction on the U.S. Highway 93 (US 93) Post Creek Hill project will begin in spring of 2027.
The work originally planned for fall 2026 has been rescheduled to allow additional time for project development, including completion of final approvals. This additional coordination will help ensure the project is fully prepared for construction and can safely and efficiently move forward.
"This project remains a high priority for MDT and our partners," said MDT District Administrator, John Schmidt. "US 93 safety improvements related to wildlife crossing movement are important to Montanans, and we look forward to starting this work."
The project is designed to enhance safety along this important stretch of US 93 from Post Creek Bridge to the Leon / McDonald Lake Road area and will support wildlife movement through the corridor. Planned construction improvements include a northbound truck climbing lane at Post Creek Hill and a new bridge over Post Creek that facilitates wildlife movement. These enhancements will help address safety concerns and provide a more connected route for wildlife in the area.
MDT, CSKT, and project partners will provide additional information as construction approaches, including project timing and traffic impacts.
