LEWISTOWN, Mont.: The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) and its partner, Kiewit, have substantially completed work on the MT 200 Bridges Lewistown Area project that replaced 10 aging bridges along US Highway 87 (US 87)/Montana Highway 200 (MT 200) in the Lewistown area with bridges or culverts. In addition to the bridge replacements, the project also included:

  • Minor road and approach construction to tie the new structures into the existing road
  • Widening an approach for mail route turn-around (bridge #5993)
  • Flattening the Briggs Coulee curve (bridge #6005)
  • Flattening the roadway profile and installing lighted wildlife signage at Elk Creek (bridge #6101)
  • Upgrading the Ayers irrigation ditch
  • Improving flood conditions at North Fork McDonald Creek (bridge #5994)
  • Reconstructing nearly three miles of roadway adjacent to bridges
  • Widening shoulders near the bridges
  • Installing new guardrail
  • Installing rumble strips
  • Fencing improvements

“This bridge replacement project was an investment in the long-term strength of Montana's transportation infrastructure. As a critical corridor, MT 200 connects people, freight, agriculture, and communities across central Montana,” said Mike Taylor, MDT Billings District Administrator. “We’re grateful to community partners and the traveling public for their support during the construction of these 10 bridges.”
