The rest area closed in May 2025 for renovation. The approximately $2.5 million renovation, completed by KH Civil Contracting, includes:

  • Four new pavilions
  • New utility shed
  • New lighting and signage
  • Two new pet areas near the car and truck parking areas
  • New treated septic system
  • New reverse osmosis (RO) filtration system for drinking water
  • New sidewalks
  • Upgraded plumbing system
  • New heating and air conditioning fixtures
  • Newly sodded lawn with sprinkler system
  • New fencing
  • Americans with Disabilities (ADA)-compliant upgrades

The rest area parking lot was paved by Riverside Contracting Inc. as part of the Bad Route Interchange—Southwest project, which included rehabilitation of about five miles of I-94 extending to the Yellowstone River.
