GLENDIVE, Mont. — The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) will reopen the Bad Route Rest Area at 6 a.m. on Monday, October 5. The rest area is located at exit 192 on Interstate 94 (I-94) between Glendive and Fallon.
The rest area closed in May 2025 for renovation. The approximately $2.5 million renovation, completed by KH Civil Contracting, includes:
- Building renovation
- Four new pavilions
- New utility shed
- New lighting and signage
- Two new pet areas near the car and truck parking areas
- New treated septic system
- New reverse osmosis (RO) filtration system for drinking water
- New sidewalks
- Upgraded plumbing system
- New heating and air conditioning fixtures
- Newly sodded lawn with sprinkler system
- New fencing
- Americans with Disabilities (ADA)-compliant upgrades
The rest area parking lot was paved by Riverside Contracting Inc. as part of the Bad Route Interchange—Southwest project, which included rehabilitation of about five miles of I-94 extending to the Yellowstone River.
